Happy Fall 2017

It has been a year since I entered something in this blog - much too long.  In the year that has passed, we have happily added a new pup - his name is Lucky - "Happy Go Lucky".  He was our 50th Wedding Anniversary Present to each other.  He has had some health issues, but continues to be happy, cuddly and such a joy to us.  we can not imagine life without him - here is his picture.
After taking some time off from soft sculpture, I have enjoyed getting back to work on a limited basis.  Loving to complete a new dog or animal always brings the same joy and sense of satisfaction as it did years ago.  Will be posting some new animals here as I complete them.  Wishing you all the best and thanks for visiting......

A New Just-A-Bear - August 2016

A new Just-A-Bear has just been completed after approximately a three year wait - working  at a slower pace and on mostly smaller bears and smaller animals has taken precedence lately.  I love to hand stitch completely even the bigger bears.  This fellow is approximately 18-1/2 inches tall and is made from older dense mohair - his eyes are two tone glass with some hand painted detailing - his nose is brown thread stitched with wax coating and sealed.  He is filled with poly-pellets - no armature - just soft and cuddly - his paws are made of ultrasuede - he is fully jointed and has a longing to be hugged look.  Please email me with any questions or if you have interest in adopting this bigger fellow.  I have been very blessed to be a part of the creative world for almost 30 years and always thankful for the amazing experiences and memories. Thank you for visiting and have a wonderful day!  email:  willsexpressions@gmail.com.   adopted - thank you!

Spending the past several weeks reorganizing my studio and redesigning the website and blog - changing email addresses and trying to reconnect with folks after losing my email address book has been very time consuming.  Definitely feel as if the time spent is a big step  moving forward.  Very anxious for creative time in the studio.  I have several pieces started and many ideas sketched.  Thank you for visiting and have a great day!

Where does the time go - it is almost August and summer is whizzing by.  Spending days reorganizing my studio and sketching ideas.  Hot summer days outside and cool air conditioning inside make an excellent blend for accomplishing this mundane task that I have been procrastinating about.  I do see progress - finally.     Have several pieces in the works and look forward to completing them.  Wishing you all  happy days ahead....

Teddy bears, puppies and kittens.....

Fall is in the air - the leaves will soon begin to change colors and present a breathe taking change that is so inspirational to me.  I always think about finishing projects or following through on ideas.  For many years, I have thought about adding a kitten to the designs I enjoy making.  Not too long ago, my beautiful Granddaughter asked me why I never made a cat?  She and her Mom are true cat lovers and caretakers of kittens and cats of all sizes and ages.  I really did not have an adequate answer.

Her precious question pushed me to sit at the drawing board and see what I could come up with.  I found in my overflowing mohair closet, a small piece of a beautiful mohair that said "kitten" to me.  So, the pattern was drawn up to utilize the small piece of mohair.  The kitten sits 6-1/2 inches tall.

Here is the outcome - I want to make a few changes to the pattern for the next one, but I was pleased for a first effort.  Hope you have a great day - thanks for visiting......

Maltese - Little Bit O' Puff - 5-1/2" tall - mohair

Almost twenty years ago a precious, sweet Maltese had to leave us - her time here on earth with us was over.  I cried and still cry thinking of her.  She was so tiny and so sweet, a really love bug.  She did have her protective side and was not afraid of anything.  Finally found a long pile mohair that I thought would work to make a replica of her.  This is the prototype - named after her - Little Bit O'Puff - the first three pictures are the small replica - made entirely of mohair - poly/pellet filled - glass eyes and jointed head.  She is a little handful. The last picture is of our real Puff. Thanks for visiting and sharing a lovely memory with me.  Have a great day.

The Bear Who Came Alive....

Having enjoyed making bears for almost thirty years has been one of the greatest joys of my life.  Our family was blessed with three healthy, wonderful sons - having them travel to bear shows with me filled my heart with many wonderful memories.  One of those memories was when one of our sons, as a young boy, wrote this story for me.  Hope you enjoy reading it -

The Bear Who Came Alive - written in 1987.......by my son in his own words.......

Once in a small town in Virginia, there lived an enchanting bear maker.  She had a collection of bears even more enchanting.  She lived in an old house by a laboratory.

One day, the lab was working on a special chemical.  The chemical accidentally fell into the burner.  The burner quickly spread the chemicals' gasses everywhere into that small town.

The chemical was called LMC (Live Mixture - Caution).   The gases reached the enchanted bearmaker's house.  The gas got into the house.  Suddenly.......the bears began to move!  They began jumping around and having a party!

The bearmaker went to her bear shop to see what was going on, she saw the bears moving and screamed!  Then ran away!  The bears followed her to her room and explained what had happened with the LMC.

Suddently she exclaimed "we have not time to lose!".  She explained this could be dangerous if it got to the rest of the town.  they had build the biggest Shop Vac in the world.  All the bears teamed up with the bearmaker and sucked up the LMC Gasses.

The only problem was that everything that was touched by the gas would stay alived forever!  But, that made the bearmaker so happy!

The End

(So that is the fact as to why some bears do seem alive - it was never determined for sure what happened to the gasses....has your bear been touched by the Gasses? - - have a great day, MaryAnn)
